Hello all – I hope the first day of summer finds everybody in good health.

Well, I’m nearing the end of my two-year tenure as President. It’s been challenging at times, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it!

I’m a big believer in getting out there and introducing myself to people and managed to get to five of our official events last year (a lot of the others were cancelled due to Covid of course): The Great Yorkshire Show, Worcester Sale, Moreton in Marsh Show, Melton Mowbray Show and Sale, Masham Sheep Fair with our AGM - a total of very nearly 2,000 miles!

At the end of March, I paid a visit to Tom Boothman, one of our breeders in Yorkshire. We were given a very warm welcome on a snowy day, and it was a privilege to be shown his fine flock in picturesque surroundings.

Now I’m looking forward to getting out and about again this year and hope to meet up with as many of you as possible. In an ideal world, I’d attend every show, but of course work and commitments make this impossible, though I do keep trying to win the lottery!

We have updated the details of our official shows and results, sales and events on our website and Facebook. Please carry on supporting the shows, to ensure that we continue to have our own classes in 2022 and into the future. Thanks to all those who have already competed this year at our early shows, and my congratulations to all prize-winners.

I’d like to repeat my thanks to Holly Plante for all her enthusiasm and work for the Association and extend a very warm welcome to our new secretary – Jess Middleditch.

Council is delighted to announce the appointment of Jess Middleditch as the new Secretary of the

Oxford Down Sheep Breeders’ Association.

Jess brings considerable administrative experience to her new role and also has a strong background in pedigree sheep breeding. Her brother Harry previously bred the very successful Knowl Oxford Down flock on the family farm in Suffolk.

Jess and her partner farm near Thetford in Norfolk where both commercial and pedigree sheep flocks run alongside an arable enterprise.

Council would like to thank outgoing Secretary Holly Plante for all her work for the Association and wish her well in her future studies.

Jess will be attending NSA Sheep 2022 at Malvern and the Worcester Show & Sale and looks forward to meeting members at these events.
