OFFICIAL OXFORD DOWN SALES

The Association recognises five UK sales as official Oxford Down sales. These are good places to see a selection of sheep from different flocks either for commercial or pedigree use. Alternatively, the Secretary can provide a list of breeders whose flocks can be visited privately. Some details of the official breed sales are given below. WORCESTER SHOW & SALE
This is the Association’s premier sale and is aimed at existing and prospective Oxford Down breeders. There is a good selection of rams and ewes forward at this sale and it is an ideal opportunity for breeders to purchase stud rams for use on their pedigree Oxford flocks and also for new breeders to purchase quality foundation stock. There is a pre-sale show. There are usually also some rams suitable for commercial use.

MELTON MOWBRAY SHOW & SALE
The Melton Mowbray sale is a convenient source of Oxford Down breeding stock for those in the Midlands, Eastern counties and North of England. The sale attracts a good entry of both rams and females suitable for pedigree breeding. Some rams are often sold for crossing work too. A show is held on the Saturday morning.

KELSO RAM SALES
Oxford Down rams have been consigned to the Kelso sales for over a century and the tradition continues to this day with rams suitable for both pedigree and commercial use usually on offer.

NSA BUILTH WELLS RAM SALE
The National Sheep Association’s large multi-breed Welsh ram sale provides another good source of Oxford Down rams for both crossing and stud purposes. There is a show held on the evening prior to the sale.
